4 weeks ago my family and I embarked on a journey of a lifetime! But over the past few months we have been in a whirlwind; we wrapped up our life in California and moved across the country. God has paved the way so beautifully and I’m excited to start sharing our incredible adventure with you…
We felt led to move to Ohio just 5 short months ago. We asked for confirmation, and do you know what happens when you ask God with an open, loving, willing heart? You WILL receive! We got confirmations all around us. Truly divine stuff! So what is this “divine” stuff I speak of? Here are just a couple examples I visually captured:
And so it began, I immediately jumped on Zillow – house hunting is one of my favorite hobbies and NOW I actually had a reason put that hobby to use, I was ECSTATIC. I started researching the town we were moving to; schools, weather, churches, weather, employment, weather, Hobby Lobbies, etc. My husband began the conversation with his employer of 20 YEARS, O’Reilly Auto Parts, and was able to transfer at his work (another amazing gift from God in how it all happened and the UNBELIEVABLE way it’s unraveling for him). A cool thing about God’s perfect timing is that JR was able to take a 45 day VACATION and as pay-periods and timing would have it, he started his first day in Ohio ON HIS 20th ANNIVERSARY! How is that even possible? Just so cool!
So we began plotting, planning, purging and packing our lives. We made 11 Suburban truckloads full of donations throughout the process! That’s right, ELEVEN!
I wasn’t initially counting, but after collecting the donation slips each time, I was wondering how much we had donated…11 truckloads, and counting (obviously made 2 more donations after this pic) with 2 big and really successful yard sales. It felt so cleansing to get rid of all this stuff we had accumulated over the past 8 years we lived in that home. SIDE NOTE: packing was quite the debacle for me! You may not know, but I’m a self professed “memory collector” and when “memory collectors” have to process, pack and “purge” their mementos of memories, it can become really overwhelming. To have to process Every. Single. Thing. sigh. it was a doozie for me. Oh, and I have this visual impairment thing that really got to me a couple days into my packing surge. After a breakdown of the stress, anxiety and difficulty I was having (and many prayers, pep talks and some tears later) we got it all done. My husband was such a great support and my rock through it all!
PSA: If you’ve given me a card, ever, then they made the cut and are still with me! And through all our ‘see you laters… until next time… not goodbye’ celebrations, we received so many beautiful cards, and welcome home cards too, that have been lovingly displayed in our new home, so THANK YOU! I’m a mushy sentiment, what can I say?
The kids were such troopers; making do with the circumstances, living minimally with some uncertain chaos at times, all the pending changes, and packing up their toys and possessions (funny story, 1 time my girl was supposed to be “packing” her toys and when I checked on her, she was cuddled in the corner napping! Packing IS exhausting)! I’m just so glad that’s over, and reflecting now I can’t believe all that we did to get here.
We put our house on the market and it sold, over asking, in 3 DAYS, with MULTIPLE OFFERS. Thank you God! Although we had a really difficult, stressful experience with the buyers actually closing escrow – we saw the blessing in that challenge; we eventually learned (and blatantly saw) the importance of having faith, letting go of OUR plan and trusting God’s plan, which is WAY easier said than done.
We (as in, my super strong husband) packed a 6,500lb container FULL of our possessions and shipped it off. We (as in, my husband) packed our Suburban and a cargo trailer TO THE BRIM and 1 month ago, we set off across the country. We took our time, made it a road trip for the books and after 1 week of driving and seeing our beautiful country, we safely arrived to our new home with not 1 hitch or snafu (I’m sure that was all the prayers we were wrapped in through our journey, if you were one of our prayer warriors, thank YOU). We’re renting Grandma’s home for now and over the past 3 weeks we’ve been putting our lives together, navigating a new town and starting fresh anew.
It’s been phenomenal to see God move through all this, almost unbelievable… at times I’d look at my husband and ask “that’s not me just making this up right? did you see that? how can that be? that can’t be a coincidence… there’s no way God did all that just for me/us” UNBELIEVABLE STUFF guys! God is so good!
So there it is! I’ve been itching to blog but been unburying ourselves from boxes, busy starting our new life and transforming this house into our home. Lots more to share… stay tuned!
